I recently visited Ireland in November with my husband for the very first time. Our first stop in Ireland was Dublin, and we spent 3 days there. We fell in love with Dublin and cannot wait to go back to explore the northern half of Ireland.
Number 5 – Trinity College
As a true book lover, Trinity College makes my list for one of the top 5 spots in Dublin. There is nothing quite like seeing the rows of books in the largest library in Ireland and The Book of Kells! Once you tour the library, you can visit the gift store, which has a lot of Trinity College gear! On this trip, we got to see the Book of Kells, which is a 1,000 year old illuminated manuscript and how the book was made. It took us over an hour to go through the tour because we were fascinated with reading and listening to the guided tour.
Number 4 – Ha’penny Bridge
Ha’penny Bridge is a breathtaking pedestrian bridge over the River Liffey. Ha’penny Bridge was built in 1816. When we visited, the bridge was lit for Christmas. One popular thing to do on the bridge besides taking photos is to leave a love lock. You put it on the bridge dedicating it to your loved one.
Number 3 – St. Stephen’s Green Park
St. Stephen’s Green Park is a historical park and garden located in the center of Dublin. St. Stephen’s Green Park was the perfect location to take a break from shopping on Grafton Street. There is a playground for the younger visitors, lots of benches throughout the park to sit and relax, and an old walking bridge that crosses a serene pond with ducks and swans. There are also several famous statues and memorials inside of the park. We sat near the gazebo and watched the swans swim in the pond.
Number 2 – Grafton Street
As a shopping enthusiast, I’m a huge fan of Grafton Street. It is one of two main shopping streets located in the center of Dublin near Temple Bar. You can find stores, bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels, and busking. If you’re wondering what busking is, it is a term in Ireland used for street musicians and bands. Busking is permitted on Grafton street from 11 am to 11 pm with a new act beginning on the hour.
Number 1 – Temple Bar
Our favorite location in Dublin was visiting the Temple Bar. Temple Bar is centrally located, and it’s the most happening place in Dublin. There was always a line to get into Temple Bar so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to wait. Temple Bar has live music and a great atmosphere. Make sure when you are there to try out the Guinness beer, Smithwick Ale, and Orchard Thieves Cider beer.
Those are my top 5 favorite spots in Dublin, Ireland! I am sure I could easily do a Top 10 (or maybe even 30!), but this hits a few of my favorite highlights!
