Jamaica

Jamaica is a Caribbean island full of energy and the friendliest people you will ever meet!  It is the third-largest island in the Caribbean Sea, mostly known for its Reggae music and diving/snorkeling sites in Negril.  The three main areas in Jamaica are Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril. The lush rainforest, reef-lined beaches and mountains make this a favorite of many!

My family and I loved listening to the Reggae music at our resorts and had fun dancing at the pools with the employees teaching us some of their moves!  Bob Marley Museum is located in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica.  

Jamaica has many exciting and adventurous excursions.  One of the top excursions in the Ocho Rios area is climbing up Dunn’s River Falls.

This is such an amazing experience with many fun photo ops. Don’t worry, the guides are there to assist you if you need help climbing up the rocks and waterfalls.  Another fun excursion is going to Mystic Mountain.  Here you will take a ski lift to the top and you can zipline back down, or if not feeling like ziplining through the rainforest, then you may take the ski lift back down.  While at the top, there are a few things you can do like eat lunch, shop, walk around, and do the Jamaican bobsled. The bobsled through the rainforest is actually how the Jamaicans trained for the Olympic Games.  Maybe you have watched the Movie Cool Runnings?  If not, check it out!  This bobsled controlled by the riders can go fast, medium, or slow!  I would say go all out and GO FAST!  We definitely had a great time riding the bobsled!

We loved the views from the top of the mountain as we ziplined downward. They will let you go upside down or backward too! The Blue Hole, Luminous Lagoon, and Bamboo Rafting are popular as well so make sure you find time to enjoy some adventures and do EXCURSIONS!

Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest sprinter, won three straight Olympic Games in the 100 meter and 200 meter races.  My son was really hoping to meet him while we were there.  The locals said you will see him from time to time at restaurants and shopping areas.  We didn’t see him, but we bought his track uniform (look alike) for my son and that made his day!

Shopping downtown is fun, but yes, they will ask you to come in their stores and try to make deals with you.  We did find some great deals but had to leave after a bit since they do keep trying to sell you more and more.

Restaurants

Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville in Montego Bay – it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!  Come have a margarita and a Cheeseburger in Paradise.  What is fun about this location is the slide you can go down right into the ocean after eating!

Rick’s Café in Negril is a fun place to eat and then cliff dive!  This is a great bar/restaurant with Caribbean grub known for the jerk chicken and ribs!

Popular resort brands are Sandals, Beaches, Secrets, RIU, and Couples to name a few.  Each brand resort is located throughout Jamaica in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril.
