The mecca melting pot has so much to offer, New York City is always a good idea! If you’ve visited more than once, you’re probably well vested in all the tourist traps that are typical hot spots for newbies, but what about those who have a thirst for a true New Yorker’s day to day pleasures? Let’s get into enjoying NYC like a local!
First things first. Where to stay… a true New Yorker can be found living in an apartment in any of the five boroughs, but since you’re here on a short-term basis, let’s select a stay that includes hot water and heat, shall we? For a room with a view, let’s opt for The New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan. An average of just under $300 a night will provide you with the basics in a room equipped with all the standard necessities along with a fabulous staff that are accommodating and hospitable.
Ok, so now that we have you checked in, you need to have yourself a meal worth mentioning. Get yourself a Metrocard and head on down to the NYC MTA subway to Astoria, Queens where the noshes abound! First stop, 30th Avenue. Comfortland (between Steinway and 41st streets) is just what it says, a land of comfort food. Must haves on this menu are numerous, but take it from me, you gotta seriously consider the Brisket Grilled Cheese, Maple Bacon Tots, and finish it all off with a Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake!
You’ll need to walk off the pounds you just consumed so why not hop back onto mass transit and take a leisurely walk in LIC at Gantry Plaza, have a seat on a bench and soak in some Vitamin D or read a good book. After enjoying some sunshine, you can hop the train back to your hotel for some rest before heading out to dinner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
In the mood for Thai? Look no further than Sea. Sea Thai, is a bustling sushi and seafood restaurant that’s known for its nightlife vibes and delicious cocktails. While here, you can take a seat on a swing while waiting for your table, hang at the bar with a delish mojito, or make a wish at the fountain! When ordering, be sure to have a Bussaba and try the Pineapple Fried Rice, you’ll thank me later.
Walk the streets of Williamsburg after your meal, and enjoy the hipster hustle and bustle before taking an Uber back to The New Yorker in Manhattan. Tomorrow is another day of lovin’ NYC life!
After a good night’s sleep, you’re ready to start your day with a pastry and coffee at Angelina Bakery. Enjoy the city streets as you walk at your own pace while the 9 to 5er’s make their way to work. How about some time chillin’ in Central Park? A native New Yorker has been to Central Park millions of times, so how about enjoying some more of the thirty-six miles of this heavenly haven. When you’re ready for some lunch around noon, or any time for that matter, head on over to Papaya King on East 86th Street for a super cheap but tasty meal!
Take that Metrocard and head on over to The Bronx Zoo to enjoy some fresh air and all this urban zoo has to offer. To enjoy some time off your feet, be sure to take a ride on the monorail for a great tour around the zoo! After the zoo, its time for a cappuccino or espresso, unwinding before dinner and an evening stroll.
Walk over to Arthur Avenue (The Bronx’s Little Italy) which is .8 miles away from The Bronx Zoo, and have yourself a cup of caffeine for a boost to get you through the rest of your afternoon into the evening. Gino’s Pastry Shop is the perfect place to have a seat and people watch. I highly recommend taking some pastries back to your room for a late-night snack after a delicious meal at Zero Otto Nove. Most NY natives know that only the best in authentic Italian fare is found at this not so hidden gem, and the ambiance just adds the perfect touch of Italy to your decadent dinner. Try the Calzone Salernitano for a salty but savory start and the Insalata Caprino e Pera for a light accompaniment with your choice of wine. You’ve never tasted anything so good!
You can choose Uber or Mass Transit to head back to your hotel for the night. You’ve just enjoyed another fabulous day spent in the boroughs enjoying all that New York City has to offer. These are just a few ways you can enjoy the city that never sleeps!
