If you like to stay at unique, bespoke-style hotels, you have most likely heard of Graduate Hotels. During my recent trip to the Nashville CMA awards, my husband and I stayed at Graduate Nashville to see what all the hype is about.
First, a little background on these hotels. With 30 locations, all in towns with universities, Graduate Hotels are themed based on the location, using one-of-a-kind local art pieces and memorabilia. In fact, their originality has landed them on a new Magnolia Network series, Handcrafted Hotels.
The Graduate Nashville did not disappoint. Located in the Vanderbilt University area, the lobby includes a collage of watercolor paintings based on foliage found on campus, a huge yarn hook rug over the lobby desk of Minnie Pearl, and a restored sign from an old Nashville motel. Light fixtures made of old hoop dress skirts and numerous couches create an atmosphere for some great Instagram shots. In fact, several groups visited the lobby with professional photographers during our stay to take advantage of the backdrop.
It also includes an area for specialty coffees and light bites, as well as refrigerated drinks. There was one negative associated with this. My husband loves his Diet Mountain Dew, and they had no pop available on site, so he had to take a hike to a convenience store.
The rooms were spectacular with a painting of Dolly Parton over the bed, Grand Old Opry photos, beautiful furnishings, and a spacious shower with rain shower head. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we had a great view of the city.
Sitting atop the Nashville Graduate is one of the most sought-after pool areas and bars in Nashville. White Limozeen is Dolly Parton themed, requiring separate reservations for the bar area and pool. While we couldn’t get reservations, we were able to visit and snap some photos. I will admit, my husband was in the minority when we visited as it is a favorite for girlfriend getaways and bachelorette parties. In fact, the whole hotel was very feminine with pinks and florals, but that is not the case for other Graduate Hotels.
Wondering about other locations? Chapel Hill of course has a basketball theme, Tucson embraces the spirit of the southwest, and Providence, Rhode Island, features tweed, leather, and old-world charm. I love the fact that they are all so personalized to their location and add to your experience. With 30 currently open and others under construction, availability is growing.
To sum it up, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and am happy I got to experience it. While it is a little pricey, it definitely contributes to the overall enjoyment of your vacation experience.
