Have you always wanted to do a Mediterranean Cruise? Well, whether you have thought about it a lot or only a little, I’m here to say DO IT! This past summer my family and I had an amazing time cruising the Mediterranean. It started out as a family cruise and turned into a fun group of 26 of us!
We started the vacation flying into Rome, Italy. We had pre-booked a few things to do the morning before our cruise. I was able to secure a bus to drive us around and then to get us to the cruise port on time. Our first stop was the Colosseum!
We had a wonderful time exploring around here and taking pictures of course. Next we walked to the Trevi Fountain and made a few wishes! You cannot stop here without making a wish! We also stopped by the Spanish steps and the Roman Forums, Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, and finally the Pantheon. While walking around in the hot sun we had to make a stop or two for Gelato! Yummy!
It was now time to head to our cruise port in Civitavecchia. Our group was all checked in and we were able to get a group picture on the cruise ship steps.
We sailed a day before arriving in Santorini, Greece. Here we pre-booked a tour to see the iconic blue rooftop domes in Oia. The views are absolutely breathtaking. I loved the pictures we captured of the all-white buildings and white stone walkways with the blue rooftops.
This place is probably the most relaxing and calming place that you will want to just sit and take it all in. After shopping and walking around, we took the cable car back down to our ship. If you haven’t been here, it needs to be on your list! From here we went to Mykonos, Greece, which again was beautiful! Here is where you will see the windmills and more gorgeous views. We had fun walking around and exploring and even enjoyed walking in the sea.
It was now another day at sea until we arrived in Naples, Italy. We pre-booked our excursions here as well. We wanted to see the Amalfi coast via boat and then Pompeii. I would definitely not skip out on either of these places. The Amalfi Coast was everything you have seen in pictures but even more amazing in person. We took several pictures and then we were able to get off for a couple hours to shop and walk around. This is when we had Limoncello and more Gelato of course! We saw a beautiful church and picked up some souvenirs. Finally, we were headed to Pompeii. This place was massive! I never realized how big it truly was. The architecture here and everywhere in Italy is stunning.
The stories the tour guide told us were great. We did see a preserved body made of plaster that looked so real. The history in this area and the remaining buildings after the Mount Vesuvius eruption is now an archaeological site. We can see where they cooked food in their little kitchen and where they did laundry. Off in the distance you can still see Mount Vesuvius.
All in all, this was an amazing vacation and I highly recommend it for all ages. To see the breathtaking views in Greece and Italy, and to see the history and architecture in person, was beyond amazing. Contact us today for either a vacation via land or cruise.
