Travel Tips for Pregnancy: A Three Part Series – First Trimester

If you are taking a look at this post it’s probably because you, or someone you know, is expecting. So, congratulations!!! Traveling can be stressful for many people, and especially so if you are doing so while expecting. Our travel agent Kyndal Riorden did a lot of traveling while she was pregnant with her daughter, in fact she was on the go during every trimester. After spending time nationally and internationally while expecting, she is here to share what she learned along the way that may help you too.

#1- Take all your medications with you in your carry on

This is true for everyone, but it is especially important while expecting. Kyndal’s little one was an IVF pregnancy, so it was critical in those early weeks to have her medication with her. It is best to keep any medication in it’s original packaging so that it is clearly labeled for TSA, especially if it is liquid. Medication has different requirements for TSA, so if you are traveling with liquid medications, this is ok. Just make sure to notify TSA when going through with your carry-on luggage as you may require some additional screening requirements.  Another note for when your new little traveler arrives, this is also the case with carrying liquid medications for them as well. All airlines and even TSA recommend carrying anything that is medically necessary with you as a carry-on, so make sure to keep these things on you. For anyone that has experienced nausea, having this medication at your fingertips is a must so don’t accidentally pack it in your checked luggage!

#2- Bring some snacks with you

Along with those pregnancy cravings can come some pretty big food aversions, so make sure to take a few things you know that you can snack on with you. If you are traveling internationally you may have a challenging time finding your normal go-to snacks, so having a few things that you know you can stomach is always helpful. Kyndal also found it helpful in having snacks to nibble on while searching for that food craving helped her from getting “hangry” in the process.

#3- Make plenty of stops and drink plenty of water

No matter if you are traveling by car, plane or train, it is imperative to make stops for stretching and of course bathroom breaks (did I mention grabbing a snack too?)! If you are traveling with someone who is expecting, give them some grace, the potty breaks are necessary. Staying hydrated and moving between long stretches of travel is even more imperative while growing a tiny human, so don’t dismiss the importance of these things to get to your destination a little more quickly.

Though these tips may not be mind-blowing, Kyndal found them to be helpful reminders during her travels. They are also good reminders for anyone who is traveling, especially for little kiddos. None of this information is intended as medical advice, but rather good practice for health and wellness while traveling. If you are looking for more tips and tricks for travel, one of our agents would be happy to help make your vacation dreams come true!
