I joined the Travel Agent world almost two years ago, and boy, have I learned a lot in those two years!
There was so much I didn’t know. I had no clue!
I thought Travel Agents had special websites they used for amazing deals that only they could access. I thought if you contacted a Travel Agent, they tacked on a fee to your total… I mean, they are working for you.
Okay, I really, really knew nothing.
What I know now since entering the Travel Agent world is that yes, we have access to a few agent-only sites, but we also use many of the same sites as the consumer. There are no crazy, amazing discounts that we can stir up for you, but we DO have training in knowing how to apply the best package that meets our clients’ needs and what hotel/resort is going to give you exactly what you want for the budget that you have. I’ve also learned that a Travel Agent works for their clients for free. Yep, let me say that again… FREE!
See, the hotels and resorts that we book for our clients already have a commission built into the price. Yep. The price that the consumer sees online has a commission built into it. If you do not use a travel agent, either you’re giving that commission to the vendor (like Expedia) or the hotel chain is keeping it. When you book through a travel agent and complete your trip, the hotel/resort pays the Travel Agent a commission. It’s that simple.
I was truly blown away to know how much time an Agent spends on their clients’ bookings. We research everything, ask other agents within our agency to see if there’s been firsthand experience to that destination, and we travel as much as possible to give our clients the best possible experience. We invest our time, training, and traveling for you – and we love it.
What I know now is that if you are not utilizing a Travel Agent, you are missing out. The world of travel will never be the same!
