Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary

Guess who has a magical 50^th Celebration this year?  The Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World has been the most magical park in Walt Disney World since October 1^st, 1971.  The 50^th Anniversary begins October 1^st, 2021, and will last 18 months.  If you are wanting to be there this October, book those reservations ASAP.  With the new Park Pass system, park reservations for the first week of October are filling up fast!  Disney has coined the term “EARidescence” to describe the celebrations across the parks.  Not only will Magic Kingdom partake in the celebration, but all four parks will be updated with new lighting and celebrations. We do know that this magical celebration will transform the theme park icons into “Beacons of Magic, beckoning all to come and celebrate.”

Cinderella’s Castle was freshly painted in 2020 with gold accents in preparation for the celebration, but we know that the “Castle will illuminate with a dazzling glow that sparkles with pixie dust.”  We can’t wait to see what the castle will look like for the anniversary!  Epcot’s Spaceship Earth will be updated on the outside as the reflective panels will shine lights as stardust to symbolize “beacons of possibility and optimism.” Disney’s Hollywood Studios iconic Tower of Terror will glitter with EARidescence, “evoking the glimmer and shimmer of the golden age of imagination and adventure.”  At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, “a warm and glorious light emanates from the tree of life as enchanted fireflies gather to call forth the magic of nature.” These iconic park beacons are sure to dazzle us all with the new glow of pixie dust atop them.

Mickey and Minnie will be dazzling us in their new EARidescent outfits among the parks.  I wonder how many EARidescent ear options will be available?  I fully expect all the merchandise and souvenirs to be readily available at all the parks and resorts, and I can’t wait to see it all.  I haven’t even gotten to the food… Disney is always introducing new themed food.  I wish more details were available for the food in the works, but I guess we will have to be surprised with what magical options they create for us!

Some new rides were in the works for the 50^th Anniversary but due to the pandemic, some delays are expected.  Disney did release the October 1^st, 2021, opening date for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot in the France Pavilion.  This 4D ride experience will zip you through Gusteau’s famous restaurant as a pint-size Chef Remy.  I was super excited for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to open, but this will have a delayed opening with no date set yet.  This ride is a first of its kind for Disney with a reverse launch and a full 360-degree rotation so you can see all the action.  I know my family can’t wait for this ride and are dreaming of a 2022 opening date.  Magic Kingdom has also delayed the opening of the new TRON Lightcycle Run Coaster. This was supposed to be open for the 50^th Anniversary, but construction has been delayed and no date has been set for its opening. Stay tuned!
