the blog
Recently I and three other Pineapple Escapes Agents returned from a Bahamian Cruise. We traveled on the Disney Dream and WOW was it amazing! So many exciting activities to do on and off the ship. This blog will focus on the activities that guests experience on the ship.
Let’s begin…
Midship Detective Agency
An interactive game that is fun for the entire family. Guests are given the task of trying to figure out which Disney Villain is the guilty suspect. Guests solve the mystery by finding clues throughout the ship; many clues being found in interactive wall art. I would recommend families participate in this fun adventure at the beginning of their trip since it allows you to learn and explore the ship.
Meet the Characters
One of the perks of staying on a Disney Cruise is the opportunity to meet the characters. We experienced minimal if any, wait times and it was nice not standing in the hot sun. Mickey and his friends, the Princesses, and some rather unique characters such as Stitch, Captain Hook, and Smee were there.
Deck Activities (Deck 12 and 13)
1. Mickey’s Pool and Donald’s Pool- kids enjoy splashing in these freshwater pools. Donald’s Pool is also the site of all kinds of fun activities, from Cast Member-led games to lively on-deck parties. Above Donald’s Pool you will find a jumbo LED screen, 24 feet wide and 14 feet high, that plays Disney movies morning, noon, and night!
2. Mickey’s Slide- located at Mickey’s Pool. This fun yellow slide is supported by a giant Mickey hand. This is for kids only; they must be aged between 4 and 14 years old and be between 38 and 64 inches tall to ride.
3. AquaDuck- themed after Donald Duck, this attraction is a twisting water coaster that extends over the ship. You travel through the clear tube on an inflated raft hovering above the ocean around the ship.
4. Nemo’s Reef- featuring Nemo and friends, a water play area/splash pad for 8 years and under. The area is fully shaded so your little ones can stay cool while playing. They will also enjoy the toddler size slide the blends in to the underwater theme.
5. Eye Scream Treats- Named after the friendly, one-eyed monster Mike Wazowski, this eatery offers various flavors of soft-serve ice cream. My favorite is the banana soft serve!
6. Goofy’s Sports Deck- an open-air activity center featuring a miniature golf course, virtual sports simulators and a basketball court. Guests can sign up for an early Yoga and/or Pilates class. I participated in the 7 am Yoga class and was able to watch the ship arrive and dock at Castaway Cay.
7. Quiet Cove Pool- adults (18+) can rest and relax in this luxurious pool
8. Satellite Falls- adult-exclusive wading pool
9. Currents- an open air bar on deck 13, adults only. Sip a special beverage while taking in the beautiful ocean, shore, or sunset views.
Kids/Teen Club
1. “it’s a small world nursery” (fee charged per half hour) – an internationally themed childcare center for ages 6 months to 3 years old. Trained counselors will look after and entertain your little ones.
2. Disney’s Oceaneer Club- for children ages 3-12. Kids will enjoy this multi-themed magical land; themes include Pixie Hollow, Star Wars, and Andy’s Room. Crew members are trained counselors and offer age appropriate activities for kids. After taking a tour of this area I now understand why kids go CRAZY over the kids club!
3. Edge- activity center for “tweens”. They will watch movies, play games, enjoy arts and crafts while making new friendships.
4. Vibe- a teen-exclusive space to chill out, listen to music, watch TV, and play group games.
Buena Vista Theatre
From new releases to Disney classics, guests can kick back and watch a movie in comfort. During our cruise, we were able to see the newly released movie Jungle Cruise, which I thought was fitting. I loved the style and decor in the theatre from the Mickey symbols on the chair fabric to the gold accents throughout the room. Due to covid, they are not serving popcorn, but hopefully, guests will be able to indulge in that again soon.
Evolution
An adults only venue. We visited this club almost every night to enjoy and participate in game shows such as Match Your Mate, Generation Quest, and Karaoke. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages were served. We played a few trivia games in District Lounge, right outside of Evolution. There we were served a small tray of assorted “crunchy” snacks.
Live Shows
We enjoyed Beauty and the Beast and Believe; 2 wonderful musical productions. The cast performances, magnificent costumes, and stage technology make these shows a must-see! Guests are able to enjoy a non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverage during the show.
Fireworks
A 10-15 minute show guests can enjoy on the upper deck. It was fun to relax in the deck chairs and feel the cool ocean breeze while gazing upon the lit-up sky!
Optional Fee-Based Activities
1. Beverage tastings- beer, whiskey, and wine tasting; mixology classes.
2. Senses Spa and Salon- I enjoyed a wonderful Swedish massage. They offer a multitude of spa and beauty treatments. Current covid protocols do not allow for facials at this time.
3. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique- an enchanted salon, where kids arrive as themselves and leave as a princess, knight, or sea captain.
Why we love it: Cruising on the Disney Dream was nothing short of magical! Young and old, there are so many activities to choose from. Families can enjoy memorable activities together, or there is the option of children attending the kids club programs while the adults can have a little rest and relaxation for themselves! What I absolutely loved was being immersed in the “Disney Magic”. The crew makes you feel like a Prince or Princess with every guest being well taken care of. If you and your family are looking to create lasting memories while being surrounded by the “Disney Magic” a cruise on the Disney Dream is just for you!
If a Disney cruise is your future, we’d love to help make it magical. Contact your favorite Pineapple Escapes agent or email us at info@pineappleescapes.com to get started!
