Ark Encounter

Now is the perfect time to visit the life-size replica of Noah’s Ark in Kentucky. Our family visited the Ark Encounter in Williamsburg, Kentucky back in the summer of 2020. You can explore all 3 decks of this expansive structure, and it will take you back in time to the book of Genesis and the great flood. Definitely plan an entire day to visit this incredible location.

Despite being over 5 football fields long and more than 50 feet high, the thing that stuck out to me the most was the amazing craftsmanship. I truly felt like I was in the Ark written about in the Bible. The kids loved exploring all the animal enclosures with the sounds incorporated into the displays.  I am a visual person so reading those stories in the Bible I’ve always tried to envision what it would actually look like in person.  Seeing this in person was the perfect way to bring the images in my imagination to life. The depiction created here at the Ark Encounter was far beyond my wildest imaginations.

Each story is over 16 feet high, and the pictures do not do it justice. The Ark is the largest wood structure in the country and built partly by Amish craftsmen.  Check out this amazing door! I loved to see the size of it, large enough to accommodate animals and feed of all sizes.

After you have finished viewing the animal enclosures and feeding bins, be sure to stop by the Living Quarters and see where Noah and his seven family members lived during their time on the Ark. While this is just a depiction of what may have happened, I loved seeing how they may have slept, where they ate, and even what they did to make the many days on board pass. Can you imagine living on a ship with only 7 other people to talk to and hundreds of animals to take care of? I know that isn’t the type of cruise I enjoy.

On your way off the Ark, browse through the gift shop and pick up the professional photos that are available to be taken throughout the ship. After you have finished reading all the informative signs, be sure to stop by the Ararat Ridge Zoo. You can see camels, ostriches, even kangaroos. There is also a playground for the young ones!

Be sure to give yourself enough time to explore the entire property. With our young ones, we only planned a half day, and it was not nearly enough time. We spent the morning at the Creation Museum and the afternoon at the Ark Encounter, but it was not enough time at either location. I would recommend taking a trip when your kids are old enough to read as there was quite a bit of signage with information; two of mine were too young to read so that slowed us down quite a bit, but they still loved exploring the Ark.

If you are the adventurous type, there are also ziplines that reach up to 50 mph and are over 1000 feet long. None of our kids were tall enough so we are planning another trip to take full advantage!

We would love to help you plan a visit to the Ark Encounter. Right now, tickets for kids under 10 are FREE! While there are not a lot of other activities nearby Williamsburg, the agents at Pineapple Escapes would be happy to guide you in the direction of hotels, restaurants, and more.
