If you have ever cruised before, or are just thinking about it, you may know that most cruise cabins are small. Typically when you max out your capacity for guests, there isn’t a lot of room to spare. Cruising is one of our family’s favorite vacations. But when traveling with a family, once luggage is open and spilling out, there isn’t a lot of leftover room. So I compiled a list of some useful tools to bring along with you to maximize your cruise stateroom experience.
This is crucial! You can use it to hold so much more than your shoes. I personally like to use it to hold our sunblock, googles, toiletries, and anything else that normally just lies around on the limited counter space including toothbrush, hairbrush, etc.
This was a hard one not to list as #1 as I feel like this one is a game-changer in keeping your room tidy. With the pop-up version, it won’t take up much space in your suitcase and you can toss all your dirty laundry into the hamper instead of the floor or bottom of your suitcase. At the end of your trip, just toss all the dirty laundry into one suitcase for an easy laundry day when you get home. These hampers will fit nicely in your closet on the ship, out of sight out of mind.
While you may be thinking I don’t want to do laundry on a cruise ship, there is another reason to bring clothespins along. Inside your shower stall, there is a retractable clothesline – but the line is short. With a handful of clothespins, you can hang multiple wet swimsuits at once.
These are extremely helpful to hold any numbers of items, including your door shoe organizer, swimwear, purses, lanyards with your key card, or even your clothes for the next day.
Cruises have very limited plug-in ports. If you are traveling with multiple electronic devices, it is helpful to bring a power strip. I recommend this one as it has traditional outlets but also USB plug ins.
Please ensure that you check with your travel agent on whether these are allowed as some cruise lines may not allow powerstrips.
Bonus items to enhance your cruise vacation!
Magnetic Door Decals – This one doesn’t have to do with maximizing your space but is fun to have. Cruise lines let you decorate your stateroom door with magnets only. No tape of any kind is permitted so this personalized family cruise magnet is perfect. You can customize it as much or as little as you like. Also makes it easier to find your stateroom.
Chair Clips – While this doesn’t apply to your stateroom, I think it is definitely a good idea to bring along on your cruise or any beach vacation. I really like this type of chair clip, it is small, flexible and won’t break in your suitcase or take up much room. They also help you find your towels when everyone has matching towels laid out on the pool deck or next to the ocean.
