Welcome to Happy!
This September I was so excited to visit the “Happiest Place on Earth” for the first time ever! I’ve visited Walt Disney World in Florida many times but had never been to Disneyland in California. Fun fact: I did visit Tokyo Disneyland while living in Japan in high school!
Disneyland Resort located in Anaheim, California, is made up of two parks – Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park – the Downtown Disney District, and hotels including Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa.
We were lucky to stay at Disney’s Grand Californian, which is super convenient – you can walk from the hotel directly into Downtown Disney and Disney California Adventure! It was nice not having to worry about transportation to the parks! The Grand Californian’s design is similar to Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World.
Disneyland’s size and layout reminded me of Universal Orlando Resort. The two parks are located within walking distance of each other and Downtown Disney. Again, it’s super convenient to go from one park to the other and not have to worry about transportation.
We started off our day at Disneyland Park, which has many of the same classic rides as Magic Kingdom (Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, it’s a small world, and Pirates of the Caribbean to name just a few). Disneyland Park is also home to Galaxy’s Edge and popular Star Wars’ rides like Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. It’s interesting to note that the rides aren’t all exactly the same as their Walt Disney World counterparts… it was fun to see the differences!
On day two, we walked right into Disney California Adventure! This park reminded me of Hollywood Studios but with the added bonus of Avengers Campus, Cars Land, Pixar Pier, Pacific Wharf, and more! A few of the newer rides we enjoyed were Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, Incredicoaster, Radiator Springs Racers, Pixar Pal-A-Round, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!
