Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney’s Contemporary Resort – the only Disney Resort with a monorail station built inside the hotel! This modern-style hotel takes a different approach than the other hotel designs and features a beautiful contemporary design and amazing views of Bay Lake.

The Contemporary is located in the Magic Kingdom resort area and is one of Walt Disney World’s deluxe hotel options. It was one of the original hotels that opened in October 1971 and will be undergoing a refurbishment in 2021.

The tall A-Frame building features dining options in the center with guest rooms making up the frame on either side. A fun fact about the Disney Contemporary Hotel is that during construction, the steel frame of the building was constructed while the rooms were created off-site. When the frame was ready, the rooms were then lifted into the frame.

The Contemporary also features two sparkling pools overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon, a “Secret” Garden, and the best views of the fireworks (besides in front of Cinderella’s Castle of course).

The Contemporary is located on Disney’s monorail system, allowing guests to take the monorail to both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, as well as the other monorail hotels – Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Bus transportation is available to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and the water parks.

Room Types

The Contemporary Resort has garden view, lake view, and theme park view rooms and suites available. The Contemporary also features Bay Lake Tower rooms exclusively for DVC guests.

Club level is also available and can be a great option! The Club level includes a lounge that serves refreshments from 7 am-10 pm.

Pool

The Contemporary Resort features a heated year-round pool with white-sand beaches and a 17-foot high waterslide. There is a separate kid’s play area with fountains and water playground. Bay Lake Pool is a separate area offering a quiet escape. You can also rent a cabana with a TV, iPod dock, mini fridge, and resort phone.

Cove Bar
Private pool bar for guests of Bay Lake tower and DVC members. This bar offers specialty cocktails, wraps, and salads.

The Sand Bar
Located poolside or an enclosed bar with a/c, this location offers quick snacks and a full bar menu – perfect for a quick refreshment from a day at the pool.

The Wave Lounge
Stylish bar located within The Wave… of American Flavors Restaurant. Serving trendy beverages in a trendy atmosphere.

Outer Rim
Lounge bar with stunning views of Bay Lake and specialty cocktails.

Contemporary Grounds
Grab & Go coffee bar with pastry goods, smoothies, tea, and of course Joffrey’s coffee!

Contempo Café
Located right below the monorail station, grab a quick bite before or after a day at the parks. This quick-service location serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Table-Service

California Grill
Located on the 15th floor, this dining location is only accessible by elevator. The stunning views of the lake and the castle can be seen through the panoramic windows. This seasonal rotating menu features gourmet California cuisine and the freshest ingredients. Please note this dining location does have a dress code and reservations are highly encouraged. Chef Mickeys
This breakfast dining spot is a classic for Mickey lovers! Character-dining with Chef Mickey and friends. Enjoy all-you-can-eat served family-style featuring Mickey waffles and a “Celebration” Mickey pancake.

The Wave… of American Flavors
This wonderfully themed restaurant has a unique entrance next to the main desk. Be sure to make a reservation for this American dining experience during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Why We Love It

The magic of being so close to Magic Kingdom and the awe of having the monorail station located inside makes this resort a must-see for everyone. I absolutely love the amazing dining here. The Contemporary Hotel has so much history, and you’ll want to be sure to check out the 90-foot mural by Mary Blair who helped design the hotel theme.
