Welcome to the French Quarter!!
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, that is. This is the resort where cobblestone streets, old-fashioned lamps, wrought-iron balconies, cascading fountains, and beautiful magnolia blossoms meet you at every turn. The Antebellum-era resort keeps things calm and elegant, while the colorful Mardi Gras characters and jazz music provide the fun.
Perched along the banks of the Sassagoula River, this resort is located in the Disney Springs area. Opening in 1991, with the latest refurbishments in 2018, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is the smallest moderate resort.
Bus transportation is available to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and the two Disney water parks.
Disney’s water transportation is available to guests so they take a ferryboat to Disney Springs and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. As you make your way down the Sassagoula River, listen as the music changes from jazz to pop as you enter Disney Springs. This is just one of the Disney touches that you will come to love on your Walt Disney World vacation.
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter has 1,008 rooms with each room being 314 sq. ft. in size and having a maximum capacity of 4 guests plus one child under three years of age in a crib (or 2 guests for king bed rooms).
With five room categories, Standard View, Garden View, River View, Pool View, and King Bed, the spacious and comfy rooms have the feel of early 1900’s New Orleans. Simply stated elegance with dark wood features from floor to ceiling will have you feeling relaxed from your first step into the room. Between the dresser, long closet, and raised platform beds that give you extra storage for your luggage, unpack your bags and feel at home while on vacation.

Doubleloon Lagoon
Clap your hands, tap your feet, and prepare to swim to the beat… to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter’s all-alligator band that is! At Doubleloon Lagoon, it’s Mardi Gras every day, and these alligators are ready to start the party. Even King Neptune has come to join in on the fun and has brought his 51-foot sea serpent, Scales. Kids will love sliding down his tongue into the shimmering pool.
For those wanting something on the calmer side of life, you can find a whirlpool spa, located in a separate area next to the pool, where you can relax from a day in the parks and listen to the sounds of New Orleans.
Of course, a party is not a party without a drink in your hand. So grab a drink at the pool bar, Mardi Grogs (more information below) and join in on the fun!
Doubleloon Lagoon Water Play Area
If the swimming pool is not your child’s beat, then they are sure to love the Doubleloon Lagoon water play area. Located next to the swimming pool, guests who are under 48 inches in height will enjoy the Mardi Gras colored aquatic play area where they can enjoy the water slides, water cannons, and large water bucket.
Ol’ Man Island
Head over to the Mississippi Delta where you can enjoy an ol’ fashioned swimmin’ hole at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. Designed after an abandoned sawmill, your family will love this 3.5-acre refuge that includes a 95-foot waterslide. You can find more details about the Ol’ Man Island pool complex in our upcoming Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside blog post. (Please note that the use of this pool is an exception to Walt Disney World Resort’s pool rules.)
Sassagoula Flatwoods and Food Factory
If you are looking for a quick bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you don’t have to go far! Located in French Quarter Square, you will find this convenient, quick-service restaurant. No matter whether you are an adventurous eater or just like good old American favorites, you are sure to find something that everyone will enjoy; from jambalaya and gumbo to cheeseburgers and chicken strips, you will not go hungry.
Scat Cat’s Club Café & Lounge
Opening at 6 am every day and located in French Quarter Square, the Scat Cat’s Club Café is a great way to start your morning. Home to their world famous Mickey-shaped Beignets, grab one of our favorite Walt Disney World treats either in the original flavor or a specialty flavor (try Pumpkin Spice in the fall) and a cup of coffee (or hot tea in my case) and get ready for a magical day!
In the evenings, the Café turns into a full-service lounge, closing at midnight, which makes a perfect way to end an evening. Sit back, enjoy an appetizer (maybe try the Chicken and Waffles, Sassagoula Crab Dip, or Crawfish Étouffée, just to give a few examples), enjoy a drink or two, indulge in a Baton Rouge Beignet (with your choice of Baileys, Kahlúa, or RumChata), and listen to the sounds of New Orleans’ jazz music! (Please note that live jazz performances vary. Check the schedule of events during your stay.)
Mardi Grogs
There is nothing quite like continuing the party by the pool bar especially when it is Fat Tuesday every day! Grab a Turkey Club Wrap with a Sunshine Margarita for yourself and an Uncrustable with a Strawberry Smoothie for the kids and enjoy a day in the sun.
In-Room Dining
If you’re like my mom, she always wants to have those special experiences with the grandkids and so it never surprises me when pizza gets delivered later in the evening when the kids have a “vacation sleepover” in her room. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter’s in-room dining is a great way to order pizza, salad, chicken strips, and more for those late-night cravings. On your room phone, press “In-Room Dining” to place your order anywhere between 5 pm-midnight. (Please check details in the room regarding gratuity and delivery charges.)
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is one of my favorites because of its quiet and serene setting with stunning views! From meeting Mr. Jim, the doorman, (or one of his fellow cast members) and being welcomed to the resort with his New Orleans “Ta-Da,” it felt like we had been transported to another world. In the evening as you are walking “home” from the day in the parks, there is nothing quite like sitting on a garden bench, eating a New Orleans beignet, and listening to the clomping of the horse-drawn carriages coming down the street and being a part of the Disney magic.
