Greek Isles Cruise

To celebrate my daughter’s high school graduation in June 2023, we took a mother-daughter cruise of the Greek Isles and got to check a trip to Greece off the bucket list!  We flew to Athens, Greece (via Toronto) where we embarked on a 7-night cruise on the Norwegian Jade waking up to a new island every single day.

Day 1 – Athens

We arrived in Athens excited and exhausted after traveling for nearly 24 hours.  We hopped on the transfer from the airport to the port in Piraeus.  Check in was smooth and soon we were on the ship!  We grabbed lunch in the buffet and then napped on the pool deck, lol.  That evening we set sail and enjoyed dinner and a magic show on the ship.

Day 2 – Rhodes

On day 2, we woke up in beautiful Rhodes!  We had a planned excursion, which took us by bus to the city of Lindos where we toured the ancient acropolis from the 12th century BC!  We opted to walk (vs a donkey ride) up to the top, and the views were absolutely incredible!!  After our excursion, we explored the medieval city of Rhodes (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) on our own.

Day 3 – Bodrum, Turkey

It was another beautiful day waking up in the port of Bodrum, Turkey!  We decided to explore on our own here and walked through the Turkish markets on our way to the Castle of St. Peter.  After touring the castle and underwater archeological museum, we enjoyed a beachside lunch before heading back to the ship!

Day 4 – Mykonos

One of our favorite stops was the island of Mykonos (or island of the winds)!  Here we took a selfie tour with stops at a beautiful beach, farm, and Mykonos town.  After our excursion, we continued to walk the streets of Mykonos visiting shops, restaurants, and Little Venice.  We went back to the ship to change for dinner and then headed back out to catch the sunset!

Day 5 – Paros

We were finally ready for a beach day at our next stop in Paros, the center of the Cyclades islands.  We took a boat ride to the beach and swam in the beautifully transparent (and chilly) waters of the Aegean Sea.

Day 6 – Heraklion, Crete

Our next stop was Crete, the largest of the Greek islands!  We had the best taxi driver (and our new friend) take us to scenic Agios Nikolaos with a few stops along the way including a beautiful monastery, Elounda, and Spinalonga island.

Day 7 – Santorini

Last but not least, we visited the island paradise of Santorini, or maybe the lost island of Atlantis?  Waking up to the cliffs was one of the most unexpected and incredible views of our trip.  All cruise excursions were cancelled due to the swells (boo!) so the line for the cable car was crazy.  We decided to brave the donkey trail (not for the faint of heart!) and got my best workout of the trip, lol.  We took a bus to Oia to see the famed blue-domed rooftops and returned to our ship via the cable car at sunset.

Day 8 – Back to Athens and then home!

It was an amazing cruise and so many fun memories were made with my daughter!  The history, the views, the cats, the eyes… if you know, you know! 😉  A cruise is a great way to visit multiple islands – and you only have to unpack once!
