When you think of Mexico, do you picture kicking back in a beach chair with a cold tropical beverage in hand? Well, I am here to tell you that relaxing on the beach is only one of many incredible things to do in Mexico! Whether you are hoping to experience a tranquil getaway, an epic outdoor adventure in the jungle, an underwater encounter in turquoise-blue waters, or the fascinating history and culture of Mexico, there is an excursion for everyone!
Land Excursions
Land excursions in Mexico are great for those who love adventure and want to witness the natural beauty of the countryside! Some of my favorite land excursions to book for clients are ziplining tours, ATV tours, adventure park tours, and horseback riding tours, but there are many more options to choose from. No matter what land excursions you decide to add to your itinerary, I can guarantee that you will have the time of your life!
Ziplining
Satisfy your appetite for adventure during an exhilarating zipline experience! Fly high above the lush Mexican jungle on an adrenaline-fueled tour of some of the best zipline circuits in North America. Glide over super-thin cables stretching more than two miles, soak in the panoramic views of the tropical jungle below, and cross hanging bridges that will test your balance. There are several unique ziplines in Mexico that will certainly fulfill a thrill-seeker’s dreams, like one where you are suspended from a huge steel structure while twisting and turning at a high speed over the treetops (also known as the “human rollercoaster!”), and one where you can fly through the air like a superhero! Get your heart pumping with a ziplining excursion in Mexico!
ATVs
Calling all adrenaline-junkies! Race semi-automatic ATVs through a variety of thrilling circuits leading you down muddy roads in the exotic Mexican jungle, mangrove forest, grasslands, and along the beaches of the stunning Caribbean Sea. This is a great excursion to do on a rainy day. Instead of sulking in your hotel over the bad weather, enjoy a fun day in the mud with an all-terrain vehicle! Many companies give you the option to drive your own ATV or share an ATV with a traveling companion. Either way, you are in for the ride of a lifetime!
Adventure Parks
Mexico has many adventure parks that provide endless entertainment and are sure to leave you with stories to tell for years to come! Xcaret Park is one of the best! It is a water park, theme park, amusement park, and eco-archaeological park, all in one. Here, you can swim in underground rivers, snorkel, learn about Mexico’s flora and fauna at the Butterfly Garden, and witness the awesome presentation of Xcaret Mexico Espectacular. Near Tulum, you will find Xel-Ha Park. Grab your snorkeling gear to observe the underwater marine life of the cove, slide down the thrilling waterslides of the Scenic Lighthouse, or ride ziplines down into the refreshing water. Xenses Park is an unusual place, where imagination has no limits. Here, you can stroll through a village that will test your balance, explore various ecosystems in complete darkness, soar like a bird on a zipline, or ride a waterslide that flows into the cool waters of a cave. At Xenotes Park, you will visit the four different types of cenotes that exist in Mexico and rappel, zipline, cliff jump, and kayak in the beautiful waters. In my opinion, visiting an adventure park is the perfect way to explore everything that Mexico has to offer!
Horseback Riding
Have you always imagined yourself going on a romantic horseback riding adventure on the beach with your partner? Well, you can live out your dreams in Mexico! Climb on the back of a beautiful and well-trained horse for a tranquil journey through the heart of the Mexican jungle and the radiant white-sand beaches that line the Caribbean Sea. Observe and learn about the amazing local flora and fauna and natural features of Mexico as you travel. The expert guides do a fantastic job of pairing you with the right horse for your skill level. The Caribbean Sea that extends from Mexico is one of the prettiest bodies of water in the world! There are tons of water excursions available for you to experience, but some of my favorite ones to book for clients are sailing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and parasailing. You will want to make sure that you include a water excursion on your itinerary so that you can fully experience the Caribbean’s mesmerizing beauty!
Sailing
One of the most relaxing excursions in Mexico would be sailing on a catamaran to Isla Mujeres! Spend the day soaking up the sun on the sparkling Caribbean Sea and feel the calm breeze on your face as you sip on tropical beverages from an open bar. During this excursion, you will have the opportunity to jump off the catamaran to snorkel at a reef location where you will witness vibrant marine life and enjoy free time to explore and shop on the beautiful Isla Mujeres. This is a must-do excursion for your trip to Mexico!
Swimming
Swimming in a cenote in Mexico is a very popular excursion for tourists, and there are thousands of them to choose from in the country. Two of the most famous are Ik-Kil, one of the most photogenic cenotes because of its sparkling waterfalls, high vertical walls, and swaying vines; and Cenote Dos Ojos, which features over 500 meters of underwater caves. The Gran Cenote near Tulum is a huge lake cave, home to a large population of sea turtles and tropical fish. Besides visiting a cenote for a swim, head to Akumal (“land of turtles!”) to swim with Mexico’s giant sea turtles for a truly unforgettable adventure!
Snorkeling/Diving
Make sure you head out on a snorkeling or diving excursion during your visit to explore Mexico’s mesmerizing underwater world! Throughout your excursion, you will have the chance to paddle through waves of tropical fish, vivid coral reefs, ancient shipwrecks, underwater statues, stingrays, and massive sea turtles. Many of the snorkeling excursions offered are family-friendly, so everyone can experience the Caribbean life! Diving in the Caribbean is an exhilarating experience if you are wanting to see more of what the turquoise waters of Mexico have to offer. The sun and warm water beckon!
Parasailing
If you are in the mood for electrifying excitement as you witness sweeping vistas of Mexico’s stunning coastline, you will want to experience a parasailing excursion high above the Caribbean Sea. Merging the thrilling action of soaring through the air and soaking in the inspirational panoramic views of the skyline, sparkling white sand beaches, and some of the most gorgeous waters of anywhere in the world, parasailing is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of your trip. Cultural Excursions
Chichen Itza
I would highly encourage history buffs to book an excursion to see the most majestic archaeological site in Mexico, Chichen Itza! It was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007 and welcomes over 2.5 million visitors each year. Join an archaeological guide as you journey through the ancient Mayan ruins to learn about how this large pre-Columbian city played a major role in Mayan civilization and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the Spanish arrived. Even to this day, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatan peninsula’s Maya population. Prepare to be mesmerized by the sheer beauty and size of this legendary ancient city!
Tulum Ruins
The Mayan city of Tulum was one of the last cities inhabited by the Maya People. It was once an important trading post that generated massive wealth by exporting jade and turquoise. Today, it is a fascinating city-museum featuring well-preserved temples and incredible views of the coast! Millions of tourists visit the Tulum ruins each year because of its regal setting on sheer limestone cliffs above the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, the only Mayan city built on the coast. You will not want to miss an excursion at this iconic site in Mexico!
