Perfect Day at Universal Orlando Resort

Someone recently asked me what my perfect day is.  My first reaction was “April 25th because it’s not too hot and it’s not too cold.”  She looked at me like I was the one confused.  If you have no idea what that means, then you must be too young for Miss Congeniality. 😉

Although, I do like the weather in April (even though my allergies don’t), apparently, she was referring to what my perfect day at Universal Orlando would look like.  This question makes more sense because we were sitting on the steps in Diagon Alley eating butterbeer ice cream at the time.  Speaking of which… every version of my perfect day includes some form of butterbeer.  If you haven’t had butterbeer at Universal Orlando, YOU. ARE. MISSING. OUT.

(For more information on the types of butterbeer and which one is my favorite, check out my blog post on butterbeer.)

If you have heard any of my podcasts on Universal Orlando Resort, you know that the Christmas season, affectionately known as Grinchmas, is my FAVORITE time of the year to go to Universal.  I am a sucker for most things Christmas.  Do you have a cardboard box in your backyard decorated with Christmas lights?  Sure, I want to see it, send me a picture!  The entire area of Suess Landing is decorated in Christmas lights.  Sounds perfect!  You mean THE Grinch is there, AND I can get my picture made with him?? (I’ll be right back, booking my flights.) Disclaimer – this scenario isn’t far from the truth with how trips are booked within Pineapple Escapes!

I love Christmas, Christmas lights, and the Grinch.  But there is one thing that the holiday season at Universal is missing.  Mardi Gras food.  That brings me to Mardi Gras – my second favorite time of the year at Universal.  You can read all about the Mardi Gras experience HERE, but if we’re talking about MY perfect day at Universal, it includes the shrimp boil and beignets during Mardi Gras.

Back to my perfect day… the weather is nice enough to wear leggings and a long sleeve shirt (not too hot and not too cold 😉 ). I don’t like to stand in line when I’m hot, and I don’t like to have to wear a hat and gloves and still freeze.  Yes, that has happened to me more than once at Universal and yes, I know I’m high maintenance.  But this is my perfect day after all.

I start my day with a stroll through Diagon Alley with a frozen butterbeer.  There’s something about strolling through Diagon Alley in the morning when the air is still a little cool and crisp.  There won’t be long lines for any of the rides (walking on to the rides in 2020-2021 spoiled me a little bit)! Now that we’re in 2022, this means you should have express passes if you don’t want to wait excessively in lines.

Lunch consists of buffalo chicken tots from Green Eggs and Ham in Suess Landing. In a perfect world, there isn’t a 20 minute wait, the tots are hot and crispy, there is ample buffalo sauce and cheese, no ranch dressing, and a large Diet Coke.  (Maybe I should go eat lunch…)

After lunch, I would ride some more rides before I watch the Grinchmas show.  After Grinchmas, it’s a perfect time to stroll Seuss Landing with a hot butterbeer.  Once it’s dark and Seuss Landing is all lit up with Christmas music playing throughout the park, it is quite magical.

Lastly, my perfect day ends with the holiday parade featuring Macy’s balloons.  I LOVE the parades at Universal.  It’s a close tie between the magic of the Christmas parade with Santa lighting the Christmas tree at night, and the fun vibe of the Mardi Gras parade.  If we could combine them and have the Grinch throw Mardi Gras beads during the Christmas parade, that would be quite amazing!

My perfect day revolves around my favorite parts of Universal – the food and the experiences.  I LOVE just walking around and taking in the vibe of the seasonal experiences.  And apparently, I love to snack (that is not a new revelation). The rides are not the biggest priority to me.  Your perfect day may consist of more rides than mine.  That’s why Universal Orlando is amazing for everyone.  If you listen to this recent podcast about our perfect day, NONE of our days are alike.  But they all have one thing in common, they are perfect to us.

What does your perfect day at Universal Orlando look like?
