Disney’s 50’s Prime Time Café

One thing that Disney does so well is theme dining (as if we ever doubted). And Hollywood Studios 50’s Prime Time Cafe is no exception.

Located along Echo Lake in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this great little diner will take you straight back to the 1950’s and make you feel right at home like you would in Grandma’s kitchen.

If you love down home cooking or have picky kids, this is a great spot for you! From the minute you walk in the door you are treated like family. Our waitress was hilarious and definitely kept us laughing all through dinner. When I say they treat you like family, I mean they are not above enlisting the kids to help set the dinner table, or yelling at your husband for putting his elbows on the table, or even telling the kids to sit on their bottoms and not their knees. It sure was nice to have someone else telling my kids to behave at the dinner table other than myself for a change.

Like with all Disney table service restaurants, Advanced Dining Reservations are strongly recommended and your Pineapple Escapes agent will help you secure those reservations 60 days before your trip.

50’s Prime Time Cafe is open for lunch and dinner and serves an identical menu at both meals. While you wait for your dinner, you can catch video clips of black and white TV shows that aired during the 1950s on the retro televisions throughout the restaurant.

Now et’s talk about what you really care about, the food.

Let’s start with the appetizers. You can choose from the following delicious options:

  • Beer Battered Onion Rings (pictured below)
  • Iceberg Lettuce Wedge
  • Fried Herb & Garlic Cheese
  • Chicken Noodle Soup

We loved the Onion Rings, and it was a large serving big enough to satisfy my family of 5.

For the main dish it was a bit harder to decide because everything on the menu looked delicious. If you are anything like my husband, he always asks the server what their favorite dish is and then orders that. My photo does not do the food justice because it was absolutely amazing!

Entree options include:

  • Golden Fried Chicken – Such amazing chicken. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture, but trust me, it’s so much better than KFC.
  • Traditional Meatloaf
  • Caesar Salad with Chicken or Salmon – for those that need to eat healthy on vacation, I am not one of them!
  • Old Fashioned Pot Roast – pictured below, my husband’s selection and THE BEST pot roast I’ve ever tasted
  • Sampler Platter of all the favorites – Meatloaf, Fried Chicken and the Pot Roast – perfect for those of you that have a hard time deciding or want to share a plate
  • Seasonal Vegetable Platter

For the little ones, they offer really delicious kids’ meal options as well. With three kids, we got to sample 3 of the four choices. Kids got to choose one entree and 2 side dishes from the menu, and the portions were filling for my kids. They all enjoyed their choices, as pictured below.

  • Salmon
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Grilled Chicken – the only one we didn’t try
  • Breaded Chicken Strips

50’s Prime Time Cafe also has a great selection of dessert options to satisfy any sweet tooth.  Some of my fondest memories as a child, and even as an adult, was going to Grandma’s house and always finding it stocked with delicious sweets. My Grandma was well known for her desserts, particularly homemade fudge. The nostalgia of this restaurant reminded me of all those fond childhood memories.

  • Traditional Warm Apple Crisp with or without Ice Cream
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Layer Cake with or without Ice cream
  • Ice Cream Sundae
  • Brownie Sundae

We were gifted with some *pixie dust* by our waitress who had noticed my daughter’s kindness and gave us some yummy cupcakes to take with us when we left.

If this type of meal makes your mouth start to water, or your stomach start to growl, be sure to let your Pineapple Escapes agent know to add it to your wish list for dining reservations.
