Silver Dollar City

Most of us are familiar with the big theme parks at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, Busch Gardens, and Six Flags.  But if you’re not from the Midwest, you may not have heard of Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.  This is one of my family’s favorites!  It comes as no surprise to me that Silver Dollar City was awarded “Friendliest Park” in the entire theme park industry!  With more than 40 rides and attractions, 100 craftsmen, and award-winning food and entertainment, Silver Dollar City is fun for the whole family.

Branson is one of our family’s favorite vacation destinations and visiting Silver Dollar City is always a highlight for us!  When you visit SDC, it’s truly like stepping back in time.  The fact that it’s an 1880s-themed park AND sits on top of one of Missouri’s deepest caves are all part of what makes Silver Dollar City so special.  No matter what the season, we always enjoy our time at the park.

World-class festivals and events are showcased from spring through Christmas.  Spring Ride Days kicks off the season in March 2022, followed by Young Christians’ Weekend, and Street Fest.  In the summer, there’s a special Summer Concert Series, National Kids’ Fest, and Moonlight Madness.  Fall at Silver Dollar City is one of my favorite times to visit the park with the Southern Gospel Picnic, Country Music Days, and the Harvest Festival.  SDC’s Harvest Festival features Craft Days and Pumpkins in the City, a glowing event with thousands of illuminated pumpkins and “non-frightful” fun for the entire family!  You can enjoy rides into the night including some of our favorites like Time Traveler, WildFire, PowderKeg, and Mystic River Falls!

Speaking of rides, SDC has some of the best!  How about Time Traveler … the world’s fastest, steepest, and tallest spinning roller coaster!  And the newest family river expedition, Mystic River Falls where you WILL get wet, lol.  This awesome family raft ride is a half-mile river journey lasting about 5 1/2 minutes.  It holds the record for the Western Hemisphere’s highest drop on a raft slide at 45 feet tall, as well as a total linear length of 2,100 feet and a unique elevator lift.  Of course we have more family favorites including Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast, American Plunge, and Fire in the Hole!

Last but not least, you don’t want to miss one of the nation’s top Christmas festivals – An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City.  My family absolutely loves the park during the holidays… it truly is one of the best Christmas destinations we’ve found.  An Old Time Christmas showcases 6.5 million twinkling lights, a nightly light parade featuring Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, an 8-story animated Christmas tree, light spectaculars of Christmas In Midtown & Joy on Town Square, holiday foods, a crafts colony of artisans, and a sing-along authentic steam train.  Plus, our whole family loves the Broadway-style productions including A Dickens’ Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life.  It’s a fun and memorable way to celebrate the true meaning of the season.
