Universal’s Loews Portofino Bay Hotel
Loews Portofino Bay Resort is an amazing luxury resort on Universal Orlando Resort property. I love the Italian theme this resort offers with cobblestone walkways and Italian Cypress trees! You will literally feel like you are in Italy. This resort is located bayside and has two options for transportation to get to CityWalk, Universal Studios, and Islands of Adventure.
Loews Portofino Bay opened in September 1999 and was renovated in the summer of 2020. It is located within walking distance to CityWalk and the two theme parks. Since it is bayside, you may take the complimentary water taxis to CityWalk and the parks, which I highly recommend! Walking through the lush walkways is wonderful too, although that will take about 10 minutes. If you plan on going to Volcano Bay, complimentary buses are available.
The resort is themed around Italy! You will see the lovely bright colors and cobblestone streets and walkways as well as the Italian Cypress trees! If you listen closely you may notice some Italian accents from the staff! You can have a gelato or an espresso at the many options to eat and drink. There are actually nine restaurants on-site!
Room Types
Loews Portofino Bay Resort has a few room options, which include Garden View, Bay View, Deluxe rooms and Club level rooms. Club level rooms include complimentary breakfast and snacks throughout the day.

Pools
Beach Pool
The Beach Pool is the perfect place for the family to spend time together. This pool includes a Roman aqueduct-themed waterslide, a sandy beach, children’s pool, two hot tubs, and three colorful beach cabanas. The following amenities are included with cabana rental: ceiling fan, phone, Plasma TV, refrigerator with water, soda, and a fruit bowl. There are many poolside activities including ping-pong, bocce ball, and other games!
Villa Pool
This pool is a wonderful place to relax and soak in the sun! Here you can get upgraded private cabanas and upgraded lounge chairs. If renting a cabana here, there are even more amenities included!
Hillside Pool
This pool is located on the East side of the resort and up on a hill which makes it more secluded and peaceful!
Complimentary towels are provided at each pool as well as sunscreen, swim diapers, and swim vests!
Mandara Spa
Located between the Beach Pool and Villa Pool, the spa is wonderful place to relax and receive a massage.
Restaurants and Bars On-Site
Table-Service
Bice Ristorante
This Italian restaurant is more intimate and reservations are highly suggested. This renowned place includes Antipasto and my favorite dish Penne all’ Arrabbiata! You can also find pesce, carne, and zuppe!
Mama Della’s Ristorante
This is a more resort casual restaurant with your traditional Italian dishes just like out of mama’s kitchen. Highly recommend reservations here as well!
Trattoria Del Porto
Resort casual, seaside Italian cuisine with a modern twist! Enjoy dining inside or outside overlooking the harbour. There’s something for everyone including burgers, pasta, chicken, and more. There’s even a kid’s play area. Buon appetito!
Quick-Service
Sal’s Market Deli
Grab something quick to go! Here you will find pizza, meats and cheeses, crackers, and fruit.
Splendido Bar and Grill
Located poolside, you can grab many items including a burger or salad and your favorite cocktail!
Gelateria
Serves gelato, smoothies, and milkshakes as well as breakfast cereals and breakfast sandwiches.
Starbucks
Yes, Starbucks is located in the lobby for your morning cup of joe or espresso!
Why We Love It
Loews Portofino Bay is a great choice for a luxury Universal resort because it is gorgeous and has recently been updated! You will definitely love the feeling of being in Italy! Dining options are amazing, and there are plenty of on-site restaurants to meet everyone’s needs! The three pool options are spectacular. I love the ease of access to CityWalk and the parks via water taxis and the walking paths. I have never had guests complain about this resort and not love the experience and the convenience! Did I mention there is also a game room for the kids?! Pets are welcome, too!
