Walt Disney World for
“Pooh-Sized” Adults

Pooh-sized? If you are like me and part of the approximately 42% of United States citizens that are overweight then you may have heard this term before…especially if you are a Disney lover!

A pooh-sized adult is a cute way of referring to plus-size Disney guests.

First, let me preface this by saying that I did not come up with the nickname for people who are like me and have a little more fluff than others but I will totally own it! I like to think of myself as cute and cuddly and at times I find myself singing “Up, down, touch the ground, In the mood (lips smacking) for food!” like Winnie the Pooh but if you have ever taken the walk of shame (the walk to the exit after being told you do not fit on the ride) you know that is not a pleasant feeling.

If you are like me and fall under the pooh-sized category then you may have a little fear about your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation and how your size will alter your trip.

Well, here is some great news!!

For the most part, Walt Disney World is pooh-sized friendly!!

So here are a few attraction tips to help you prepare for your next magical vacation to Walt Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

  • 1. Space Mountain: This ride is pooh-size friendly; depending on your size and mobility you may have a little trouble getting in and out of the ride vehicle.
  •
  • 2. Astro Orbiter: Again, this ride is pooh-size friendly but depending on your mobility you may encounter some issues stepping up into the ride capsule.
  •
  • 3. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: Of all the rides at the Magic Kingdom this may be the one that is most uncomfortable to you. My husband and I personally have not felt any discomfort in this ride but others like us have stated that it was uncomfortable to them. Guests who have felt discomfort usually find this with their legs. The lap bar pushes your legs together in-between the bars and may be uncomfortable if you have larger thighs.
  •
  • 4. Big Thunder Mountain: This family coaster is pooh-sized friendly. If you are riding with a small child you will want to hold onto them as you will share a lap bar.
  •
  • 5. Splash Mountain: Like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad this attraction has a shared lap bar so if you are riding with small children you will want to hold onto them, especially for the drop.
  •
  • 6. Mad Tea Party: The door into the teacup is small so you may have to enter the ride sideways. If your shape is a little more like Winnie the Pooh then your stomach may sit a little on the top spinner but don’t let that ruin your fun! Spin Away!

Epcot

  • 1. Test Track: This ride offers larger seat belts making it pooh-sized friendly. If you have mobility issues then just beware of the step down into the ride vehicle. There is a test seat located outside of the attraction if you would like to try it first.
  •
  • 2. Spaceship Earth: If you have longer legs you may want to request the back seat. It feels like it has a little more room.
  •
  • 3. Frozen Ever After: Depending on your height you may want to stay away from the front row. It has a little less legroom than the others.

Animal Kingdom

  • 1. Kali River Rapids: Don’t let being pooh-sized stop you from riding this ride as it is completely friendly to us “cuddly” ones. This attraction offers seat belt extenders to those who need it. Just beware that you are likely to get soaked a little more than the others. From my experience the side with the most weight gets the worst splashes.
  •
  • 2. Dinosaur: If you would like a little more room for this attraction then ask for row 4, however; my experience is that the other rows have plenty of room.
  •
  • 3. Avatar Flight of Passage: Depending on your personal pooh-size shape you may have a little difficulty with this ride. The ride “vehicle” is a motorcycle shape and you straddle the seat. A back bar releases and locks into place as well as a locking device around your calves. There is a test vehicle outside the attraction for you to try if you are unsure.

Hollywood Studios

  • 1. Mickey & Minnie Runaway Railway: This ride has a lap bar, however; unlike thrill rides you will probably not feel like you have to hold on to your younger children.

With any ride that uses a seat belt, make sure that you pull the seat belt out all the way prior to sitting down. This will help you ensure that you can buckle the seat and enjoy the attraction with little to no problems.

Some of the attractions also have test seats outside. Don’t feel embarrassed to use them. Try them out, take a picture, and make it another part of your Disney adventure.

Remember, that no matter your size, you are a Disney fan and you can have the magic too!
