There are many ways you can make your Walt Disney World vacation ahhh-mazing. There are add-ons, dining reservations, VIP tours, dessert parties, and so much more. One of the add-ons that I never hesitate to add to every single one of my Walt Disney World vacation packages is Disney’s Memory Maker.
If you don’t know, Disney’s Memory Maker is the service that allows you access to photos taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers and ride photos all in one convenient package.
PhotoPass photographers are scattered throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks to take your photo in all of the iconic locations. You can have your picture taken on Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom with Cinderella’s castle in the background. You can have your family picture taken in Magic Kingdom’s hub with a larger shot of the castle visible. In Animal Kingdom, you can get an amazing shot of your family in front of the Tree of Life. All the locations to create that perfect, Instagram-worthy shot.
Not only do you get access to the photos taken by the PhotoPass photographers inside the Disney World parks, but you also get access to ride photos AND videos. Select attractions will snap your picture while riding and some will even take video. One of my favorite ride videos is from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride. They will take video (and a picture) during one of the more surprising drops and the reactions are always so much fun to see.
Another feature that Disney PhotoPass offers are Magic Shots. In addition to the incredible backdrop, Disney will also add select Disney characters and/or objects to your photos. The PhotoPass photographer will have you pose in a very specific way to really bring the Magic Shot to life.
Another option that is included in your purchase of Memory Maker is access to photos taken at the Disney PhotoPass Studio located in Disney Springs. This is a *perfect* way to get family portraits made in a professional indoor setting with your choice of backdrops and even fun props. They have both standard and virtual Disney scenes for your backdrops. Virtual scenes are created using a green-screen technique. No reservations are needed — just simply stop by when you are visiting Disney Springs or make a special trip decked out in your favorite Disney-inspired outfit.
Disney makes it SO easy to view and access your photos via the My Disney Experience app. After awhile, all of your photos will appear in the “Photos” menu on the app. Magic Shots are the longest to appear in the app, simply because a cast member has to actively insert the shot into the picture. Sometimes photos will appear without the Magic Shot inserted but no worries — simply let one of the Cast Members know at Guest Services and they can get it fixed for you.
The prices for Memory Maker:
Memory Maker One Day – $69.00
Includes all your photos and videos from one day of your choosing.
Memory Maker – Advance Purchase – $169.00
Includes all your photos and videos from your vacation; however, any photos taken prior to or within 3 days of the purchase date are not included.
Memory Maker – $199.00
Includes all your photos and videos from your vacation.
**All purchases are nonrefundable and prices are subject to change.**
As you can see, it is quite obvious that Memory Maker is a no-brainer. The cost of one individual photo is $14.95-$16.95 plus tax!! With the amount of pictures that you can possibly have taken during your WDW vacation, Memory Maker will more than pay for itself… a couple times over in some cases.
I know that when adding up the cost of your Walt Disney World vacation, the sticker shock may have you hesitating with purchasing Memory Maker in advance, but I promise you… THIS added expense is definitely worth it. Especially if you are like me, the photographer of the family, and have a ton of pictures of your kids but not many of your entire family. Do yourself a favor and get it. I promise — you won’t regret it.
